Adaptive Management

Adaptive management is an approach towards decision making that is based on making adjustments in the decision making process as and how new information and changes are observed. In ecology, it is known as a method in which land is managed flexibly in such a way  that it yields the best results. One monitors the results of all decisions and actions taken so far, notes down the feedback, and repeats the process in a loop so as to determine if the initial decision has been successful at achieving the desired result or if any adjustments need to be made.

Flexibility and adaptability on part of the management team are key components of adaptive management. The focus is not just on reviewing the past actions and course correction, but also, having the flexibility to adapt to changes that may occur from unforeseen circumstances resulting from a changing and uncertain environment.
